Instructions for Installing Sounds for Use in Game and Chat
This is a sound script for Links similar to Tourney3. However, this script has replaced many of the sounds from Tourney3 with sounds from movies, music, and TV. Most all of the sounds played are shot appropriate, although some are just for fun and might not make total sense. There is far less repetition of sounds in this script than in any I have ever heard. Although, as with any sound script, there is some repetition.
Also remember that this is an R rated sounds script, so there is a certain amount of profanity. How much? Well, the word “Fuck” does appear from time to time.
Make sure and print this out, as it can be tough to remember all the steps. Especially if you have been imbibing heavily, as you always should when playing golf.
Also, before messing with any of this, know that these files were compressed using WinAce compression technology. This was neccessary in order to break the file up into a manageable set of files, and to minimize the pain of broken download connections. Each file is 5MB in size, and you will need to recombine them in order to get the final product. If you are unfamiliar with WinAce, go and download the freeware version here:
1. Download files NewFun.Ace and NewFun.c00-NewFun.c04 into C:\ProgramFiles\LinksLS98
2. After you have installed WinAce, double click on the file NewFun.Ace and all the files will be recombined into a single file. This new file is called NewFun.SDF. You may then delete the orignal split files if you wish. The new file, called NewFun.SDF, should be located in C:\ProgramFiles\LinksLS98. If for any reason this file has been placed somewhere else after it was recombined, please place it in C:\ProgramFiles\LinksLS98.
3. The following install instructions are based on LinksLS98.
The file will work in any post 98 versions of the game, but the install
procedure may be slightly different in other versions of the game.
Open your game.
Click on Options.
Click on Sound Setup.
Under Sound Script will be a drop down menu showing your current sound
script. It could already have set itself to be NewFun.SDF. Or it could
simply say Links.SDF. If it is not already
NewFun.SDF, click on it and select NewFun from the drop down menu.
The new sounds will now work in your game. They play commentary and music and movie and TV waves in response to game action. So you can now simply click OK and play golf again However, you cannot yet use the sounds in chat when online. For that you must perform the following steps.
1. While in the Sound Setup screen--where you selected NewFun from the drop down menu--click on Sound Script Editor at the bottom of the screen. This will decompress the waves. If it asks you if you wish to decompress them, tell it yes.
2. A new screen will then open after the waves have decompressed. Simply click Done in the upper right hand corner.
3. You are back at the Sound Setup screen where you started. Click OK. Exit LinksLS
4. Open your Windows Explorer.
5. Go to C:\ProgramFiles\LinksLS98\Linksnd. This is where all the decompressed waves have been placed. One of the first waves listed should be 007. One of the last waves listed should be YOUGETWISE. If you see these waves, then the sounds have decompressed properly.
6. You must now either copy or move all of the waves from the C:\ProgramFiles\LinksLS98\Linksnd folder to the C:\ProgramFiles\LinksLS98\Wavs folder. You can either copy and paste them, or highlight and drag them. They were placed in the Linksnd folder by the game by default when you decompressed them. But when you play online and type in a wave in the chat window (ex: <goodout> or <coldone>) the game looks in the Wavs folder in order to play them. If they are not there, they will not play in chat. That is why they must be copied from LnkSnd to Wavs. However, even if you do not copy them to Wavs, they will still play in response to game action if you preformed the first set up directions. They just won’t play in chat.
7. Once you have moved the waves to the Wavs folder, you are done. As with any set of sounds, if you type them into the chat window and your playing partner does not have them, they will not hear them. So for maximum enjoyment, please convince people to download this sound script.
